Rescue 101 SAR offers a variety of SAR services – the main ones being; wilderness search and rescue; urban search and rescue; disaster response & relief; emergency response; evidence searches; and public education. There is no charge for these services of the organization and these are described in more detail below.
Ohio presents a tremendous variety of outdoor recreation opportunities to residents and visitors. These same attractions become hazards to the unwary and to Rescue 101 SAR volunteers when called to assist those in trouble. To manage this risk, the team trains continuously to sharpen important skills. Every volunteer is trained and equipped to provide SAR and first aid services in all types of terrain and in all seasons.
A majority of volunteers are trained to the ground team member 2 or 1 standard, while a smaller group is further trained to the ground team leader level. Rescue 101 SAR is also lucky to have multiple SAR, Medical, and rope rescue instructors on the team. Additionally, a majority of volunteers go through our summer spring, and fall workshops which teach rescue skills in a wilderness environment.
Our Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) is a specialized type of emergency response designed to locate and rescue individuals who are trapped or injured in urban settings, such as collapsed buildings or other structures. Our USAR team volunteers include firefighters, EMTs and paramedics, police officers, and other emergency responders who work together to quickly and safely locate and rescue those in need. In addition to rescue operations, our USAR team may also provide medical care and support to those who have been rescued, and work to mitigate further damage or hazards in the affected area.
Our trained emergency response volunteers assist communities during and after a disaster or severe weather event and can also provide services for special events such as fairs, festivals, and large gatherings. The training for our emergency response volunteers covers a range of disaster response skills, advanced first aid, search and rescue, damage assessment, crowd control, and much more. By working alongside first responders, our emergency response volunteers help increase their communities' overall capacity to respond to and recover from emergencies.
Rescue 101 SAR has a range of teams that are available to respond to various types of disasters. These teams include saw teams that can quickly cut and remove debris from affected properties and roadways, tarp teams that can tarp damaged roofs and board up broken windows, muck out teams that can clean up water damage, scout teams that can survey the damage and make assessments, and incident management teams that can orchestrate operations.
Rescue 101 SAR volunteers are sometimes called upon by law enforcement to assist in searching for evidence in criminal cases. Rescue 101 SAR volunteers are trained in grid searches and securing a scene. The team will work under the direction of a law enforcement investigator to search likely areas. Rescue 101 SAR has assisted in these searches across Ohio.
Our volunteers will work with you to address your organization or business education or outreach needs. With presentations and programs for young children all the way to the elderly we have a program for you. Visit our educational programs page for a list of our programs or to submit an inquiry.
